Chargers News: How All-American TE Could Fit LA As Draft Pick

How will LA operate in its first draft under Joe Ortiz?

Your Los Angeles Chargers will be entering the 2024 NFL draft with some really key off-field personnel. New head coach Jim Harbaugh, hot off Michigan's run to the College Football Playoff title, is of course the marquee name, but highly-regarded ex-Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz, now LA's GM, will have more oversight for this next stage of talent acquisition.

Max Chadwick of PFF recently vouched in favor of LA using its No. 5 overall pick this year on one of the best tight ends in NCAA history which, frankly, doesn't seem like a bad idea, given that the Bolts' top option at the position last year was Gerald Everett.

"Many expect the Chargers to use that selection on either a wide receiver or an offensive tackle to help out their franchise signal-caller," Chadwick writes. "However, there’s a third option that makes just as much sense: Georgia tight end Brock Bowers."

"For starters, Bowers is the greatest tight end college football has ever seen. He was named to both PFF’s and the Associated Press’ All-American teams in all three of his seasons," Chadwick continues. "The junior is also the only two-time winner of the John Mackey Award, given to the best tight end in the country. When looking at Bowers’ receiving numbers since we began charting college football in 2014, he laps the field."
