Chargers News: How Justin Herbert Factors Into LA's Future

Where do the Bolts go from here?

Amidst the atrocity that was the Brandon Staley era in Los Angeles, the one piece of continuity that has remained for your Chargers is the steady play of QB Justin Herbert.

In spite of a number of injuries to his ribs, shoulder, fingers, and more, Herbert has consistently remained atop the league at the QB position, putting forth impressive performance after impressive performance – more by the eye test, and less by the numbers, as his team has consistently failed him on both sides of the ball.

Luckily, for all the flaws that the Spanos family has had as owners, they have been committal to building the best team they can around Herbert – they've just failed at doing so.

Much of that blame can be placed on the newly-fired Tom Telesco, but recent reaffirmation from John Spanos has inspired even more confidence that this might be an offseason of tremendous growth (per Eric Smith of Chargers.com):

"Providing Justin with all the resources to help him be his best, and the team be its best, is without question a No. 1 priority," Spanos said. "I'm very grateful Justin is here, I believe in him, I'm excited for his future."

Spanos' confidence in Herbert is great, as it indicates that there's no second thoughts  about him being in any way responsible for the team's struggles over the past few seasons.

A franchise quarterback is a rare asset for most teams, but for the Bolts, it's safe to say that they've found their guy. They're one, good offseason away from being able to set themselves up for long-term success with No. 10 at the helm – now the pressure is on them to get the job done this spring and summer.

Any more failure, and he's en route to becoming this generation's Matthew Stafford/Andrew Luck.
