Chargers News: How LA Is Expected To Handle Keenan Allen's Contract In 2024

And how should they handle it?

What will be come of six-time Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen in 2024, you ask?

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, rumblings he heard at this year's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis have him “optimistic” Allen will be back.

It seems quite possible that a cap-challenged Bolts front office might opt to figure out a fresh contract for the team's best wideout, or devise a wholly new one.

Allen is currently owed $18.1 million this upcoming season, as Los Angeles looks to rebound from a miserable 5-12 run 2023 under Brandon Staley and, briefly, his interim replacement Giff Smith.

Through 13 contests last season, the 6'2", 211-pound former No. 76 pick out of Cal caught 108 receptions on 150 targets for a total of 1,243 yards (averaging 11.5 per carry, and a career-best 95 yards per game) and seven touchdowns.

Beyond sussing out Allen's contract details, the big question surrounding how fresh Los Angeles general manager Joe Hortiz will handle the Bolts' receiver corps is what he'll do about the team's No. 2 wideout, Mike Williams.

Williams, Allen, and defensive ends Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack comprise over half of the Chargers' total salary. Given that the club is $30.6 million over the NFL's anticipated $255.4 million cap, it seems possible LA could offload Williams and one of Bosa or Mack, opting for a young, cheaper alternative in both instances.
