Chargers News: Joe Hortiz Outlines "Circle" Of Factors In His GM Decision

New Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz is continuing his press tour to unpack why he settled on bolting from his home of 25 years, the Baltimore Ravens, so he could take a gig with the Bolts.

He appeared on Los Angeles' official team podcast, Chargers Weekly, to outline the three key factors in guiding his decision:

"I think when it first opened up, you know they have a quarterback," Hortiz explained. "You don't have to fix that problem. I knew John [Spanos] from the road and I've always had a great rapport and relationship with him. And then obviously you start looking at what they're going to do, who they're targeting. Once they hired Jim [Harbaugh] it kind of [completed] the circle: great ownership, great QB, great head coach."

Hortiz served in the front offices of two championship Baltimore squads, but this Bolts gig will be his first as a general manager.

He'll have his work cut out for him: the Chargers are coming off a miserable 5-12 2023 season, and have a pretty grisly salary cap situation this offseason. It will be up to Hortiz, in concert with new head coach Harbaugh, to supply a stellar roster around Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert.
