Chargers News: LA Expected To Cut Salary Cap Obligations In A Big Way

Probably a savvy play.

Your Los Angeles Chargers will face an uphill battle when it comes to enjoying a cost-effective season. The Bolts are currently an expected $30.6 million over the NFL's $255.4 million salary cap.

For a team fresh off a miserable 5-12 run, and one stingy enough to charge its own players for the childcare it provides during games, something's got to give.

Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz (h/t to LAFB Network for the transcription), for one, is confident that Los Angeles will make major moves to trim that number.

“The Chargers are in a little bit of a peculiar position because their [committed salary over the] cap is just not good,” Schultz noted. “They have to decide on what they are going to do with [wide receiver] Mike Williams. Is that a cut [or] is that a restructure? [Linebacker]Joey Bosa has a massive number, [linebacker] Khalil Mack [does as well]. I would imagine that [wide receiver] Keenan Allen’s there next season. He was simply too good [in 2023] and he’s a legacy player there.

“To me, the Chargers are going to make one or two significant cuts and as a result one of them could be Keenan Allen or Mike Williams [but] that would surprise me … I would definitely be on the lookout for the Chargers making significant cap changes to free up some room.”
