Chargers News: Los Angeles Still Touted as Perfect Fit for Former All-Pro

Help in the backfield may be just what the doctor ordered.

The Chargers have had a lot of discussions with the running backs group, especially Austin Ekeler. After a long offseason and many question marks about Ekeler's value and position on the team, Bleacher Report has named Ezekiel Elliott the perfect fit to spell the pass-catching back.

Los Angeles has tried to find a complementary ball-carrier to complement Ekeler. Kalen Ballage, Justin Jackson, Isaiah Spiller and Joshua Kelley failed to seize the role, which has hurt the team's ground attack. Over the last two seasons, Ekeler has seen an uptick in his rushing workload, but the Chargers ranked 21st and 30th in rushing for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively.

Elliott knows offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's system from their time with the Dallas Cowboys. He shouldn't have an issue picking up the offense as the early-down and short-yardage ball-carrier.

Ezekiel Elliott is a former All-Pro and Pro-Bowl running back who spent the last seven years with the Dallas Cowboys. While Zeke is no longer considered the explosive playmaker he was in his youth, the running back still knows one thing, how to score touchdowns.

Rushing for 22 touchdowns in the last two years is a feat many running backs can never proclaim. While Elliot may have lost a step in his explosiveness, he can still grind out yards for his team.

It is no secret that the Los Angeles Chargers have tried to introduce a change of pace back for Austin Ekeler, names like Kalen Ballage, Joshua Kelley, Justin Jackson, and Isaiah Spiller have all tried to be a bruising back that can grind out yards, none of them ever lived up to that role.

The Chargers with Ekeler last year were ranked as the 30th-worst rushing team in the league.

While the former All-Pro Elliot would be a heftier price tag compared to someone like Joshua Kelley, it would give the team a need big back that can punch it in during goal-line situations.

Elliot's past experience with Kellen Moore also provides a certain history link for the free agent running back in search of a new team.
