Chargers News: PFF Puts Bolts Secondary in Top Half of Rankings List

Will they impress in 2023?

The Los Angeles Chargers seem to be buying in on defense heading into 2023 as they realize that their offensive weapons can only take them so far. Eric Kendricks, Joey Bosa and others will be able to hold down the defensive line but looking at their secondary group is where things start to get interesting.

J.C. Jackson's season-ending patellar injury changed the entire vision for LA's defense back in 2022. They had invested a lot of money into his cornerback services and everybody knows how important that position is to a team's overall defensive strength. However, he will be back this season and even if it's not in week one like he himself has projected, Jackson has been looking quite healthy in minicamp.

With official training camp still weeks away, experts at PFF have decided to take an in-depth look at secondary groups all across the league and make some rankings. I did not expect the Chargers to come in at top five by any means but they have some solid names on their side and were able to hold their own last season.

LA was able to crack the top half in this list.

"A unit we expected big things from in 2022 disappointed a bit with the injury to Jackson, yet they still turned in a respectable 74.6 overall grade.Jackson is unlikely to return in time to start the campaign but should get back on the field sometime during the season and provide a boost. Samuel and Davis were excellent in place of Jackson, and Derwin James is one of the best safeties in the NFL."

I am especially excited to see James is able to accomplish with Jackson back in the mix. I envision the two of them thriving off of one another's presence and maybe cracking the top 10.
