The Los Angeles Chargers did the obvious earlier today as they picked up the fifth-year option for their franchise quarterback Justin Herbert. NFL insider Ian Rapoport was one of the first to report it.

Herbert was a first-round pick in 2020 as the Chargers took them with the sixth overall pick. Every first-rounder has fifth-year options, and the Bolts decided to pick it up for the 25-year-old.

Justin is the quarterback of the future, and he's shown that he will be time and time again. Throughout his three-year career, Herbie has been up there with the best of them: he has 94 career touchdowns, thrown 14089 passing yards, a 67% completion percentage, and a quarterback rating of 96.2.

Discussions of a new contract have been underway, but there is yet to be a timeline for when that will happen. A new contract will happen; it will only be the matter of time.
