Most fans probably look at the upcoming 2023 draft and wonder why the Los Angeles Chargers would bother taking a tight end early. With Donald Parham coming off a great year and new contract and Gerald Everett showing promise, that position seems to have been prioritized by the squad already.

However, Everett is entering his contract year and if he continues to impress and wants a bigger deal, LA may let him walk. Parham on the other hand will be with the franchise for the next two seasons but he has already suffered numerous injuries that have potentially jeopardized his career.

For these reasons, the Bolts may just target a top-tier TE with their first pound pick this year and not worry themselves moving forward. In The Athletic's most recent mock draft, they predict LA to take this route and take a bet on Georgia's Darnell Washington.

"Enter the jumbo-sized Washington (6-7, 264 pounds). He is far from a finished product as a blocker, but he would be a significant improvement over what the Chargers have in that regard. He also has the hands and athletic gifts to be a fantastic secondary weapon in the red zone and over the middle."

Washington had quite the 2022 season with Georgia that saw him record 454 yards on 28 receptions with two touchdowns. He was named to the ALL-SEC Second Team and helped the Bulldogs win their second straight national championship.

There are few prospects that possess an NFL-ready physique quite like Washington and at just 21-years-old, the Chargers would have plenty of time to develop his skillset.

Bolts fans have been vouching for the front office to draft him for quite some time now.
