Star SEC Defender Has Top-30 Visit Scheduled With Chargers

The Chargers appear to be interested in this prospect.

The Los Angeles Chargers will be hosting Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper for a Top-30 visit prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, via Bleacher Report's Ryan Fowler.

A Top-30 visit allows a team to have up to 30 prospects in the upcoming draft visit their team's facilities for interviews, meetings, and physicals.

Per Fowler, Cooper has visits scheduled with six other teams as well, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texas, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 22-year-old linebacker spent the past four years at Texas A&M, where he was a consensus All-American and first-team All-SEC for the Aggies. In his final collegiate season, Cooper recorded 83 total tackles, eight sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

The 6'2", 230-pound linebacker recently participated at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he recorded the third-fastest 40-yard dash time among linebackers with a 4.51 second 40. Cooper also had a 34.5" inch vertical jump and a 9'10" broad jump at the combine.

Though the visit does not guarantee that Cooper will be drafted by the Chargers, it does signify some interest in Cooper as a player and prospect. Cooper could help the Chargers fill a need at the linebacker position, with former Chargers LB Kenneth Murray Jr. departing for the Tennessee Titans in free agency this offseason and the team releasing Eric Kendricks.

With the loss of Murray and Kendricks, the Chargers definitely have a need at the position. Along with Cooper, some of the other top linebacker prospects in this draft include NC State's Payton Wilson and UNC's Cedric Gray.
