Disgruntled AFC RB News Could Provide Trade Opportunity for The Chargers

A swap could be beneficial for both teams.

In a long saga, it was reported earlier this week that Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor has been given permission to seek a trade elsewhere out of Indianapolis.

Not seeing eye to eye with ownership and Jim Irsay, it was confirmed from multiple sources that Taylor and his agent were granted permission to find a trade partner away from the Colts on Monday.

Given that Christian McCaffrey's trade from Carolina to the San Francisco warranted multiple draft picks, though no first-rounder, Indianapolis surely won't just give Taylor away for free.

In a story that's been well documented, the NFL's current market for running backs has never been lower, and Taylor has also fallen victim to such concerns.

Another running back that struggled to see eye to eye with respects to his value with his team is Austin Ekeler.

Despite leading the league in touchdowns from any skill position in the past two seasons, Ekeler remains unhappy without a new contract from Los Angeles and requested a trade earlier this year.

Taylor's own saga has involved his own holdout and rehab from an unexcused ankle injury that hampered him last year, then another excused absence in what's been a confusing time for the former Badger.

A trade seems like the best option for both teams, and a possible package around both Pro Bowl running backs could prove optimal for both teams.

If age is the concern for Ekeler, given the demanding position he plays, Taylor is a significantly younger option to have in your backfield who's proven to be a bell-cow guy all the same.

Potentially, Ekeler, with a second and third-round pick for Taylor's services, may be enough to finally end the saga between two teams and their own disgruntled running backs.

Only time will tell where this situation ends, but Taylor in LA would make an already potent offense much more dangerous.
