NFL Analyst 'Bullish' on Sam Howell as Commanders Starting QB

Sam Howell is the likely starter for the Washington Commanders barring any big free agency swing, with an NFL analyst bullish on what the second-year quarterback can do.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell had a whirlwind end to his rookie season. After not starting a game until Week 18, the rookie put on a show against the Dallas Cowboys as he led his team to a win.

Now heralded as the "likely" starter in his second season under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, however some aren't sure of head coach Ron Rivera's decision...but not NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah.

Jeremiah held a conference call previewing the 2023 Scouting Combine and revealed that he was shocked Howell fell as far as he did in last year's draft.

"I thought he was a starting caliber quarterback (coming out of college)," Jeremiah said. "So, I'm not surprised that here we are a year later, and he is going to be their (Washington) starter. I didn't envision that it would have been available to them as late in the draft as it was."

So, it seems that the Commanders hit the jackpot of sorts with Howell as they look to go forward with him as the starter.

While coming in for one game at the end of the season with no pressure is one thing, being an NFL starter is entirely different.

But Jeremiah has no concerns over what Howell can produce.

"I'm bullish on him," Jeremiah said. "I think he has a chance to be a good player. I think we'll see. I think the league missed on that one allowing him to fall as far as they did."

That is certainly a glowing recommendation.

But could Howell finally be the answer to ending Washington quarterback carousel? Time will tell, but Jeremiah is confident in Howell's ability to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
