Commanders WR Jahan Dotson: Fantasy Football 'Sleeper' Pick?

Could Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson emerge as a sharp fantasy football player?

Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson certainly made some noise at the beginning of last season.

With a pair of touchdowns in Week 1 and four in as many games, many fantasy football owners wanted to pick Dotson up in late September and early October. However, the No. 16 overall pick suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out for five weeks, ultimately killing his fantasy value. However, there's hope for a better 2023.

Dotson is among Sports Illustrated's "sleeper" wide receiver picks for fantasy football leagues in the upcoming season.

"Dotson showed flashes of fantasy potential as a rookie, scoring seven touchdowns while also putting up 14-plus points five times," SI writes. "While there are questions about the team’s quarterback situation, Dotson will open the season as the Commanders’ No. 2 wideout behind Terry McLaurin. In a best-case scenario, Dotson could bring back No. 3 wideout or flex value in his second season."

Dotson flashed impressive moments in his rookie season, finishing with 35 receptions for 523 yards and seven touchdowns, in 12 games.

Dotson will likely be catching passes from Sam Howell, despite coach Ron Rivera committing to a "quarterback competition" between the second-year pro and veteran Jacoby Brissett.

With a new-look roster, the Commanders hope to reach the postseason for the first time since 2020. Washington currently has the sixth-longest odds to make the playoffs in 2023.

If Dotson can excel as the No. 2 receiver under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's play calling, he will certainly have some fantasy owners shaking their heads this season. But more importantly, he could help his team make noise into the postseason.
