NFL Power Rankings: Commanders Have 'Work To Do'

The Washington Commanders endured a tough 2023 season, but with all the moves the franchise has made, where do they sit in the post-Super Bowl power rankings?

The Washington Commanders are entering perhaps the most crucial offseason in recent memory for the franchise. Having been stuck in mediocrity for what feels like forever, Washington finally has the chance to escape the NFL doldrums.

Holding the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, coupled with the most cap space in the entire league, the Commanders' hand this offseason seems to be better than most.

But in the post-Super Bowl power rankings, CBS Sports has the Commanders ranked 31st, with only Carolina behind them.

"New coach Dan Quinn and new general manager Adam Peters have work to do, but there is talent on the roster," CBS Sports writes. "What will they do at quarterback?"

Which way the Commanders go regarding the No. 2 pick is up in the air as Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are all considered options for Washington.

Sam Howell showed glimpses of his talents, but toward the end of the season, left a lot to be desired as the long, arduous season seemed to take a toll on the young quarterback. The offensive line play didn't help as Howell was a lamb to the slaughter at times.

That has to be front on mind as well for Adam Peters and Dan Quinn as if the Commanders do select a quarterback, he needs to be protected. So while grabbing a quarterback is clearly the thought at No. 2, perhaps the offensive line is the next position the Commanders look to fortify.

There is a lot of hope and optimism that the Commanders are trending in the right direction after the new hires coupled with their draft spot and cap room. If things are done well, then Washington might find itself a few spots higher on the rankings list next season.

But there's a long way to go.
