Commanders' Sam Howell, Eric Bieniemy Impressing OT Cornelius Lucas

Washington Commanders offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas has been impressed with quarterback Sam Howell and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after OTAs.

It hasn't taken long for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to make a strong impression on his teammates.

Washington Commanders offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas went on Good Morning Football and spoke highly of Howell's performance in OTAs.

"I'm impressed with this guy over OTAs," Lucas said. "He took great command of the offense, showed great leadership, works really hard and the guy has a hell of an arm. A true gunslinger. Excited to see how far he takes us [and] where we go."

Lucas is a 10-year pro and entering his fourth season with the Commanders. He has started 27 games in his three seasons with Washington.

Along with the change at quarterback, Lucas is adapting to new offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy. Bieniemy won two Super Bowls as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator, and that championship pedigree has stood out to Lucas in his short time leading the offense.

"I can say from an offensive perspective with Eric Bieniemy he's definitely brought championship energy," Lucas said. "He has us working at a different clip and pace and I like where we're headed."

Howell and Bieniemy represent just some of the change surrounding the Commanders. With the Commanders sale set to be voted on in under a month, Lucas said the franchise is heading in the right direction.

"Don't sleep on the [Commanders] baby," Lucas said. "We got all the players, we got all the coaches, we finally got our front office together and hopefully once we sell the team, all the leadership and the ownership will be just right."
