Washington Record Prediction: Commanders Reach 10 Wins?

If everything breaks right for the Washington Commanders, they could surprise some teams next season.

The Washington Commanders are one of the more interesting teams heading into the 2023 season.

Washington went 8-8-1 in 2022 with erratic quarterback play, though Sam Howell is still a relative unknown.

The Commanders' over-under was set at 6.5. JP Finlay, an insider for NBC Sports Washington, said that number made him nervous because of the Commanders' schedule and unknowns surrounding Howell, the offensive line and overall depth.

"This makes me nervous," Finlay said. My heart is over all day, but my head is a little wary of that. It seems like they're begging you to take the over."

Will Brinson of CBS Sports said if everything went right, the Commanders can win 10 games if Howell is an upgrade at quarterback compared to Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz in 2022 and the defense continues to be a top-10 unit.

"There's definitely a pathway where those two things converge and Washington is good and wins like 10 games," Brinson said. "That's not out of the question."

Washington hasn't won 10 games since 2012 when Robert Griffin III was the team's quarterback.

Howell is the X-factor for Washington to have any success this season. If he gives Washington better quarterback play and the Commanders' offense improves as a whole under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, winning 10 games may not be as outlandish as it seems.
