Byron Young utilizes his ideal size to be physical versus power run and inside zone and, due to below average athleticism and pass rush, he will have his biggest impact being a role player on early downs at the next level.
Evaluation:
Byron Young has ideal size and shape for an interior defensive lineman. Young lined up across the defensive line at Alabama, but due to his limitations as an athlete he will need to line up inside at the next level. With a strong lower body and a wide and strong upper body, Young is effective versus inside zone and power runs. Against the run, he uses his heavy hands, leg strength, and arm length to maintain leverage at the point of attack and hold his gap. When going against double teams, Young demonstrates the ability to either anchor and hold his ground or split the blockers putting pressure on the runner trying to escape the backfield. On outside zone plays, Young struggles to move laterally due to slow foot speed and overall agility to keep up while keeping square to the line of scrimmage. Against the pass, he does not possess a quick first step off the snap or quick hands to counter when engaged with the blocker. Young lacks the hip fluidity and bend to rush the passer from the edge and should be used as the occupier on stunts.

Byron Young, for the Crimson Tide, showed up in Tuscaloosa and was a part of the team from the very beginning, where he recorded twenty three tackles in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, Selected to the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. Trolled LSU head coach Ed Orgeron on Twitter after the Tide’s win over the Tigers in 2020. Young increased his playing time, and in 2021, he played in all fifteen games, with seven starts. Byron Young was the eleventh-ranked defensive end and the seventh-best player in Mississippi, where he resides from Laurel, Mississippi. At West Jones High School, Young had one hundred and twenty five tackles in his career.
