Originally from Chicago, Illinois. He attended Mount Carmel High School and was rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports. Played at the University of Cincinnati. Decided to redshirt his first year. As a redshirt freshman started at guard in the first four games but suffered an injury that kept him out the rest of the season. During his redshirt sophomore year, he played in nine games, contributing to a very good offensive line. As a redshirt junior, he started all fourteen games at left guard and directly contributed to an absolutely dominant offense. During his redshirt senior season, he played in twelve games and had an outstanding season.
