The New England Patriots are trading quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, per multiple reports.

It's a late-round pick heading back to the Pats in return for Jones, potentially a sixth-rounder, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Jones flashed some potential early in his time with the Pats, but eventually struggled to secure the starting job. He was benched multiple times for fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe, though neither of them could fully establish himself as the clear-cut winner of the quarterback competition over the past couple of seasons.

Now, Jones will get a fresh start in Jacksonville (where he played in high school) as the backup to Trevor Lawrence, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the same draft.

For New England, they cut their losses with a failed first-rounder, and add a late-round selection to their rebuilding assets under new head coach Jerod Mayo.
