Bills Agree to Trade OL Ryan Bates to Bears for Draft Pick

The veteran offensive lineman is headed to Chicago in return for a Day 3 selection.

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a trade that will send veteran offensive lineman Ryan Bates to the Chicago Bears in return for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, per multiple reports.

An undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2019, Bates has spent all five of his NFL seasons in Buffalo so far, appearing in 73 games and making 19 starts.

He'll now join a Bears team that continues to retool their offense, which included an overhaul of the coaching staff on that side of the ball this offseason.

In return for sending a depth piece for the offensive trenches to Chicago, the Bills now get an additional Day 3 pick with which to address any number of glaring needs on both sides of the ball.
