Evaluation:
Good length and build for someone typically aligned as an F receiver in the slot. Playmaker with Usage in the run game on jet and reverse motion, as well as bubble and now screens. Smooth off the line with a suddenness into his gait. Understands route tempo and when to run-sit based on coverage dictation. Shows the ability to separate deep. Has a vertical element to his game where he can step on the toes of safeties and cross-face on big posts. Good nuance at the top of his routes. Head fakes and hip wiggles that make defenders bite. Not elite in short areas. Struggles to make defenders miss, lacking NFL-level agility and or quickness. May lack confidence in his hands or demeanor over the middle. Bogs down when he feels ensuing defenders. Unsure body positioning and balance that leaves him on the turf when there’s yards available after the catch. Struggles to high point the football in 1v1 scenarios. Doesn’t win a lot of contested catch scenarios. Palmer is a solid receiver who can win over the middle of the field thanks to his route nuance and ability to recognize coverage. He is not an elite separator and has some physicality and drop issues to clean making his overall projection limited.

Background:
Trey Palmer had a record-breaking season for Nebraska after transferring from LSU. In his lone season at Nebraska in 2022, Palmer played every game with 11 starts and caught 71 passes for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns. His 1,043 receiving yards were a Nebraska record, while Palmer's 71 receptions were the most by a wide receiver in program history and ranked second overall in NU history. Palmer's nine touchdown receptions also ranked fifth in school history, and his three 100-yard receiving games ranked 10th. For his performance, Palmer was recognized as a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the league media and a third-team pick by the conference coaches. Palmer played 28 games in his three years at LSU, totaling 41 receptions for 458 yards and three touchdowns. He was a five-star recruit coming out of Kentwood High School, where he helped the Kangaroos to the Class 1A state title with more than 1,000 receiving yards as a senior. Palmer was regarded as the No. 20 prospect in the nation by Rivals.
