"Big Dom'' is a hero. "Big Dom'' is a martyr. "Big Dom'' is an overly-emotional out-of-control glorified dive-bar bouncer. "Big Dom'' is a heart-and-soul part of the Philadelphia Eagles who protects his guys at all costs.

Yes, definitely the last one, because "all costs'' just cost Dom DiSandro a $100,000 fine from the NFL.

The NFL league office is has reviewed the unusual actions of team security staffer DiSandro, has met with "Big Dom,'' has made its punishment determination - he can't return to the sidelines for the remainder of the regular season - and has heard his appeal.

And the $100,000 fine handed down after DiSandro was involved in a weird scuffle on the sideline at The Linc in the Eagles' loss the San Francisco 49ers on December 3 ... is sticking.

DiSandro - now, "famously'' or "infamously,'' depending on how much of an Eagles fanatic you are -  got entangled in an incident involved 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

DiSandro was booted from the game. So was Greenlaw. (A "winning trade'' for Philly, to be honest.) "Big Dom'' was unquestionably in violation of league rules. ... we're really not sure of the point of the appeal, except for the distinct possibility that DiSandro maybe doesn't have $100,000 just sitting there tucked in his wallet.

He’s been allowed to keep his job with the 10-4 Eagles. And once the Eagles get to the playoffs, he will be back in full action once again. ... surely with the understanding that "full action'' doesn't mean what "Big Dom'' thought it did back on Dec. 3.
