Most Likely Destinations for RB Saquon Barkley

The New York Giants are facing the possibility of losing RB Saquon Barkley. As the offseason progresses, other teams have been named as possible destinations.

The New York Giants and Saquon Barkley's negotiations will be the talk of the NFL this offseason, as Barkley is arguably the best free-agent running back available. After failing to agree on terms last offseason, the Giants did not place the franchise tag on Barkley like last season. Barkley is free to sign with any team he'd like, including the Giants.

Multiple teams have been named as potential suitors for Barkley's services. Many of these teams offer Barkley more offensive talent and would likely offer him a better deal than what the Giants are willing to give the veteran back.

Among the teams linked to the 27-year-old running back are the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, and Baltimore Ravens.

Of those teams, the Texans and Ravens are closer to a Super Bowl than the Bears, who are projected to take quarterback Caleb Williams first overall in next month's draft.

Houston made its first postseason this past year since 2019. They have a rising star in quarterback C.J. Stroud and a solid receiving corps led by Nico Collins. As a bonus, not only do the Texans have all kinds of cap space to pay Barkley upwards of $10 million per year, but there is no state income tax in Texas, meaning anyone who works in that state can take home more of their pay.

The Ravens have made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons, advancing to the AFC Championship game this last season. They have a dynamic quarterback in Lamar Jackson, and it's thought that adding a legitimate running threat like Barkley would help take some of the onus off of Jackson, who has also used his legs to gain yardage.

The Philadelphia Eagles were also mentioned as a potential landing spot for Barkley, but reports of that team being a potential destination have seemingly died down.

Barkley has often spoken of his desire to remain a Giant for life and continue the legacy he's been building with the team and the community. While he's likely to get an offer from the Giants to remain, it's not believed he'll get anything close to one that averages $10 million per year and which includes the majority of the money fully guaranteed. In that instance, it will be interesting to see if Barkley follows the money or his desire to continue building what he's started here in New York.
