100 Days of Mocks: Packers Take Defensive Tackle With ‘Special’ Skill-Set
GREEN BAY, Wis. – After mocking one of his colleagues, CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco mocked Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee to the Green Bay Packers in his first NFL mock draft of the season.
“Bryan Bresee is a player whose career was impacted by a lot of factors at Clemson, including injury,” Prisco wrote. “But he has the talent, and the Packers have to get better up front. A receiver, maybe Jordan Addison, is also a possibility.”
Bresee missed most of the 2021 season with a torn ACL and a chunk of 2022 following a kidney infection. He also missed a game following the death of his sister from cancer.
“Football was my escape through a lot of things,” he said at the Scouting Combine. “Having my teammates, my family, my coaches, a lot of support all around me was definitely crucial during that time. And you know, it just it motivated me to push through and continue to go.”
In 26 career games that included 21 starts, he finished with nine sacks and 15 tackles for losses among 64 tackles. He was a Freshman All-American in 2020, third-team all-ACC in 2021 despite playing in only four games and second-team all-ACC in 2022. He closed his career with a sack against Tennessee in the Orange Bowl.
He’d obviously fill a huge need for Green Bay, which has only three defensive linemen on the roster who’ve played in a game.
“Bresee is a bit more of a project than you'd like at the top of the draft, but he wasn't put in much of a position to succeed in Clemson's scheme. His physical skill-set is special,” the Pro Football Focus duo of Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo wrote in its recent mock.
Speaking of that mock, the Packers selected Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid.
“You'd like him to be a little bigger to make defenses respect him as a blocker, but he's the best receiving tight end in the class,” Monson and Palazzolo wrote.
Kincaid was the pick over the likes of Alabama safety Brian Branch, Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones, Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison and Iowa edge Lukas Van Ness, among others.
While Prisco pondered Addison, he was the pick in Cam Mellor’s three-round mock at Pro Football Network.
“A slippery route runner all over the field, Jordan Addison is part of a larger plan to build around Jordan Love and surround him with talent,” he wrote. “In an attempt to figure out what they have in Love, Addison’s presence gives Love a weapon that can get open at the drop of a hat and has sure hands all over the field.”
Mellor also gave Love a potential-packed tight end in the second round.
