Another Offseason of Ridiculous Rodgers News Continues With Niners Comment

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The San Francisco 49ers could have drafted Aaron Rodgers in 2005. They wanted to trade for him in 2021. They won’t be trading for him in 2023.

So said Rodgers during the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday.

With Rodgers just about to send an iron onto the green, CBS Sports’ Colt Knost said to Rodgers and the assembled gallery, “Got any news you want to share with us?”

After a practice swing, Rodgers replied, “I’m not going to San Fran.”

So, there you have it: Rodgers, who seemed a bit miffed to not be in the loop about potential trade talks just a couple days ago, knows where he’s not going.

The United States’ role in the war in Ukraine continues to escalate and a Chinese spy balloon has been spotted in the western United States, and here we are trying to figure out if Rodgers actually knows specifics on what team he won’t be playing for next season.

It’s all so silly. No more silly than Davante Adams saying “Mine” when asked on Twitter “which neighborhood” Rodgers would be moving to for the 2023 season. Adams has admitted saying stuff on social media just to get people riled up. And, sure enough, his comments were met with a bunch of eyeball emojis.

Of course, there’s probably several grains of truth to Rodgers’ reply on the golf course.

If the Packers ultimately decide to trade Rodgers, the last thing they’d want to do is send him to a high-quality NFC rival. While there’s a sizable percentage of Packers fans who would like a change at quarterback, imagine the vitriol if the Rodgers-led 49ers knocked the Packers out of the playoffs en route to winning the Super Bowl.

That sort of chain of events gets people fired.

Logically, the Packers would prefer to trade Rodgers to an AFC team – yes, Davante, perhaps even the Las Vegas Raiders. The New York Jets seem the most likely landing spot given Rodgers’ affection for coach Robert Saleh and new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

“We all have certain coaches that have meant a lot to us over the years and have created those really special rooms to play in, special feelings on gameday, made the weeks better. Obviously, Nathaniel’s one of those guys,” Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, reporting from the Senior Bowl, said, “one source said that general manager Joe Douglas is admitting to people in the league the franchise will go all out in the attempt to bring Rodgers to Gang Green.”

For what it’s worth, Rodgers is the betting favorite to be the Jets’ Week 1 starter.
