Burns Discusses Trade Rumors & Upcoming Trade Deadline

Carolina's star pass rusher answers questions regarding today's trade deadline.

The one player everyone around the league is watching in Carolina today is outside linebacker Brian Burns. The Panthers have yet to reach a deal with Burns and his agent on a new contract, so naturally there will be speculation leading up to today's trade deadline.

GM Scott Fitterer has repeatedly stated how he envisions Burns being a part of this rebuild and how much respect he has for him. Burns feels the same way about the Panthers. He wants to be in Carolina and feels like he can help this team turn into a contender down the road.

But over the month or so, there have been a lot of rumors floating around Burns' name. However, last week, Dan Graziano of ESPN reported that the Panthers are telling teams that Burns is not available for trade. We'll know for sure if that was the case or not here in just a few short hours.

During Monday's media availability in the locker room, Burns reiterated his desire to remain in Carolina but also didn't pound the table for it. He's controlling what he can control.

"This trade stuff been going on for three years, man. I stand with God. I'm good," Burns said when asked about how he's handling the approach of the deadline. "My focus is on winning here. I don't like to look on the other side because the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I like to focus on where I'm at and be where my feet are."

Burns was also asked if he and the team have come close on reaching a new deal. "I think you'll know once it happens, if it happens," Burns stated.
