Quick Hits: Players Get the Day Off, Taking Deep Shots + More

Tabor recaps what happened in New Orleans.

Any positives from the game

"I would still stick by statement in that I don't like to lose. Once you dig into the tape, the tape will talk to you. You just have to listen to it. There were some things that the guys did well. I think probably an area we want to improve upon is just the self-inflicted stuff. I think that's the hardest part for me. I will always tip my hat to the opponent, no question. But when we make mental errors that hurt our team, those are tough to swallow."

Throwing the ball downfield on short down and distance

"I think you're always looking to take shots when you can. They obviously played a lot man to man the whole game, so you're going to be able to take some shots there we just didn't connect when we wanted to. That's another area we need to improve upon. Unfortunately we didn't convert enough on some of those third and fourth downs and there's a lot of things that go into that. We've got to improve in those areas."

Giving the team the day off

"It's for players only. It's something I decided upon. I think you just have to read your team, read the room. And sometimes just getting away and kind of clearing your mind is a good solution to having the same routine all the time. The thing about it is, you say that you're off but you do see them in the building. Guys come in and do their lift, they're doing their routine, getting treatment. I guess another way to say it is we don't have any formal meetings."

Any thought to starting Andy Dalton over Bryce Young at QB

"I think one way to become a better football player is playing football. That's a pretty simple statement. The only way you're going to gain experience in the National Football League is by playing. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Bryce. And I know there's games and plays that he's going to want back, but no, that hasn't come into play. It has not."

Missed deep throw to Mingo

"He had to slide over a little bit and deliver the throw, we just didn't connect on it. I think that if we connect on the play then maybe the commentary is he did a nice job sliding in the pocket and delivering the football."
