Panthers Make First Round of Cuts

Carolina's roster is now at 79 players.

The Carolina Panthers have announced their first wave of cuts, releasing eleven players Saturday morning.

Those who were let go? QB Jake Luton, RB Camerun Peoples, WR Gary Jennings, WR CJ Saunders, OT Larnel Coleman, DL Antwuan Jackson, LB Bumper Pool, S Collin Duncan, S Josh Thomas, CB Rejzohn Wright, and K Matthew Wright.

The roster now stands at 79, meaning 26 more players will be off the roster between now and Tuesday's deadline of 4 p.m. EST.

QB Jake Luton was brought in to get some stuff on tape as Andy Dalton missed some time with injury and the plan was for him to sit much of the preseason anyways.

Camerun Peoples, the App State product didn't see his first carry until last night which resulted in a fumble that was recovered by the Lions. He was also involved in the controversial play near the end of the game where the officials ruled that he fumbled the ball through the back of the end zone.

Wide receiver Gary Jennings made several impressive grabs throughout training camp and the preseason, including a contested touchdown catch last week against the Giants.

And for kicker Matthew Wright, he took full advantage of his opportunity and will likely end up on a 53-man roster somewhere. He filled in for Eddy Pineiro for the first two preseason games as he was nursing a groin strain.
