Christian Wilkins Will Draw Focus to Raiders' D-Line

The Las Vegas Raiders made one of the biggest moves of this offseason by signing Christian Wilkins. His presence will force opposing offenses to place an emphasis on the Raiders' D-line.

The Las Vegas Raiders made one of the biggest signings of the offseason by adding defensive lineman Christian Wilkins. Wilkins gives the Raiders one of the best defensive lines in the National Football League.

Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce explained the significance of the signings when he spoke at the NFL Owners' Meetings on Monday.

"Makes life easier for us as coaches, I'll tell you that," Pierce said. "When you get good players, makes life easy. But what it does along with other gentleman that we brought back, John Jenkins and Adam Butler, it made a lot of depth to that D-line room.

“We want to be strong there, that's going to be our strong point of our team. As you can see, I think from one to 10, I feel really good with those guys. But Christian [Wilkins], the energy, personality, love for the game. And now we got somebody on the front with Maxx Crosby, full blown effort for 60 minutes, and that's what we're looking for. And I think for us to get a player of his caliber, the way he's played over his entire career, it's going to be a blessing for Raider Nation."

Adding Wilkins to a defense with talent on every level is expected to take the Raiders to the next level. The Wilkins signing marks a significant investment in the Raiders' defensive side of the ball, and it could be the move that helps propel them toward the playoffs next season.

"It makes life easy for me because they're worried about blocking those four guys and allowed me to be able to run," Pierce, a former Pro-Bowl linebacker, said. "And that's what's going to happen for Robert Spillane as well. You're going to have to deal with Maxx Crosby, Malcolm Koonce, obviously Christian [Wilkins]. So, now you're looking at [Divine] Diablo and Robert Spillane. It should free those guys up even more to make more plays to be more productive on the other side of the field."

As the Raiders turn the page on a difficult season, there is reason to be optimistic about their future as they continue to build a roster that can compete for a playoff spot soon.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
