The Las Vegas Raiders can meet with players, watch film and get to know them as people during the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Combine allows teams unbridled access to these players to get a feel for who they could select.

The Raiders are a team with plenty of young talent, but are looking for more players to build the foundation of their future. While they were good defensively in 2023, especially in the secondary, adding more talent to that side of the ball does not hurt.

Oregon safety Evan Williams could be one of those players.

Williams, a Second-Team All-Pac 12 selection in 2023, had an informal meeting with the Raiders. He spoke about what it would be like to be a member of the Silver and Black and what it would be like to play for Coach Antonio Pierce.

Oregon safety Evan Williams spoke highly of the culture Antonio Pierce has created with the Las Vegas Raiders.

“The coaches just expressed how much of a player-coach he is,” Williams said. “How much the players just have bought into the whole culture, the whole system. We talked about their scheme a little bit, talked about my strengths and weaknesses, the typical stuff. Playing for a coach that has the players’ best interest in mind,

"I think players respond the best to a coach that really respects their players and is going to put them in the best opportunity to succeed. I think Coach Pierce has done that with the time that he’s had with that organization. Yeah, that would definitely be an awesome opportunity for me and I would definitely be looking forward to that.”

Williams spent the first four seasons at Fresno State before transferring to Oregon in 2023. He finished his college career with 214 total tackles, 16 tackles for losses, four forced fumbles, 14 passes defended and four interceptions.

A versatile player at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Williams' athleticism allows him to fly down the field to make plays on ball carriers and cover receivers well.

Williams might be the best athlete at safety in the draft class.

The Raiders currently have their starting safeties in place. Still, they could bring in Williams as a third safety or a slot cornerback to add athleticism and versatility to their defense.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
