Packers Ex Aaron Jones a Free Agent Target For Ravens?

The Baltimore Ravens' running back room is uncertain, but with Aaron Jones being released by the Green Bay Packers, could the franchise pursue a move?

The Baltimore Ravens running back room will be undergoing change this offseason as free agent Gus Edwards will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers as the NFL's legal tampering period begins.

The Ravens' rushing touchdown leader (13) will remain in the AFC but with the Chargers and Jim Harbaugh.

With Edwards the first domino to fall, what that means for J.K. Dobbins is unknown, but if fans weren't feeling good about their running back situation, the Green Bay Packers might have just gifted them a lifeline.

The Packers signed Las Vegas Raiders back Josh Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million deal per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, and shortly after, veteran back Aaron Jones was released.

Jones

While Jones would only play 11 games in 2023 and have his lowest rushing total (656) since his rookie season in 2017, towards the end of the season, he found his groove again.

In the last five games (including the postseason), Jones surpassed 100 rushing yards in each game with his 118-yard, three-touchdown game against the Dallas Cowboys in the WildCard Round his crowning moment.

Now a free agent, and only having a market value of $5.1 million per spotrac.com, could the Ravens, who are salary cap-strapped, make a move for the veteran in free agency?

Jones (29), could be quite the useful addition to Todd Monken's backfield as he would join Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill in forming a nice trio behind Lamar Jackson.

What might also appeal to the Ravens is Jones' ability as a pass-catcher. In 2021 & 2022, he totaled a combined 786 yards and 11 touchdowns from 11 receptions.

That kind of production would be welcome in Baltimore and given that he likely won't be looking to fetch top-of-the-market money, the Ravens could do a shrewd piece of business here.

Jones is available, so don't expect him to last long on the open market. Your move, Baltimore.
