Ravens Biggest Question; 'Can Lamar Jackson Regain His MVP Form?'

The Baltimore Ravens hired Todd Monken as their newest offensive coordinator in February after spending the previous three seasons at the University of Georgia.

Prior to being hired as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator in February, Todd Monken spent the previous three seasons at the University of Georgia.

And to say those years in Athens were a success is probably an understatement.

A catalyst to the Bulldogs back-to-back National Championships, Monken's offense averaged 41.1 points per game - good for fourth most in the FBS - while boasting nation's best red zone scoring unit.

With the responsibility of leading the Ravens and former MVP quarterback back to postseason success, The Athletic recently asked "One pressing question for every new NFL offensive play-caller in 2023,' with Baltimore's coming down to: "Can Monken help Lamar Jackson regain his MVP form and reach another level as a passer?"

"Monken knows how to design championship-caliber offenses, at least on the college level, where he helped guide Georgia to back-to-back national titles," The Athletic writes. "But Jackson is a far different athlete than the quarterbacks at Georgia, and questions remain about the Ravens’ skill players despite the addition of Odell Beckham Jr."

Monken and Jackson have made it known that Baltimore's new offense will include less running and more airing it out to receiving threats such as Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers.

But for a signal caller that's been so dominant as a dual-threat option - averaging 63.4 rushing yards per game over his career - the level of change is up in the air.

"How different will the Ravens offense look with Monken in and Greg Roman out," The Athletic writes. "Jackson said he hopes to do less running and more passing. Can Monken help him accomplish this goal? Jackson did direct a pro-style offense at Louisville and was just as dangerous with his arm and legs, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2016."

Baltimore looks to build off its 10-win campaign from 2022 and snap a two-year playoff victory drought.
