Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Details Biggest Offensive Change Under Todd Monken

The Baltimore Ravens offense will look different under Todd Monken with Lamar Jackson stating one big difference he is already seeing in the new scheme.

The Baltimore Ravens' offense might look a little different next season. With Todd Monken and his want to get more vertical, the Ravens might shy away from the brutal running style of previous years.

But changing how the offense has played for the last few years can be challenging, but as Lamar Jackson stated after his first OTA practice, it's all about learning and coming to grips with the scheme.

"Coach is basically giving us keys to the offense, I'm loving it," said Jackson. "[We have] New offense, had to get that down pat before the season rolls in, cause the season is getting near. Even though we've got a couple of months left, but still. Just wanted to learn the new offense and get with my guys."

After being so run-dominant last season that saw Baltimore ranked as the second-best team for yards per game (160.0) and total rushing yards for the season (2,720), naturally, it will take time to adjust.

But...what was the most significant difference Jackson saw in his first practice?

"Just being able to throw the ball down the field," Jackson said.

That is a given when you add in Monken's want to get the passing game more involved and the new star power of Odell Beckham Jr. and the newly drafted Zay Flowers.

The Ravens are going to challenge more teams through the air next season, and with a host of attack weapons, it would be foolish not to take advantage of the likes of Mark Andrews, Beckham Jr., and Flowers, not to mention the returning Rashod Bateman and free agent signing Nelson Agholor.

Lamar has never thrown for over 3,127 yards (his 2019 MVP season), but with a host of attacking weapons and an offensive scheme designed to get the ball down the field, it is hard not to imagine Jackson surpassing his career-high passing yards total.

Jackson has mentioned he wanted to throw for 6,000 yards with the weapons at his disposal, and while that seems farfetched, what doesn't is that the Ravens will be tough to stop through the air and on the ground next season.

It is a new-look offense that Lamar is loving learning right now, and when it all clicks, Baltimore will be a fascinating watch.
