Lamar Jackson Not Using an Agent Causing Ravens Issues? Ex-NFL Executives Debate

As the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson negotiate a new contract without an agent, a debate among ex-NFL general managers has broken out.

As the Baltimore Ravens' negotiations with star quarterback Lamar Jackson continue, there is a debate about whether the former Louisville signal-caller not having an agent hinders a potential deal.

In a recent ESPN piece, they spoke to several agents and former NFL executives to get their take on the situation with Jackson.

"I was trying to put myself in the shoes of a GM who might have interest. Now what do I have to do? Do I have to call Lamar himself?" said Randy Mueller, a current XFL player personnel director, and ex-NFL general manager. "It's definitely unorthodox. It doesn't mean it can't happen, but it sure complicates things."

While another former NFL executive Joe Banner doesn't see Jackson's lack of an agent as an issue.

"I do think it's being overblown, and I actually think so far it's served him well," Banner told ESPN.

The opinion on how Jackson not having an agent has affected a potential extension is split around the league. Some believe this deal could've been done back in January 2021. While others like Banner don't necessarily see what the fuss is about.

It seems the Ravens are playing the waiting game after placing the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson. If an offer comes elsewhere, it is presumed the Ravens would match it. But until then...

It is rather uncertain what will happen next.
