Former NFL Head Coach: Saints 'Team To Beat In The NFC South'

Former NFL head coach Steve Mariucci praised the New Orleans Saints at halftime of the Saints-Chiefs preseason opener.

During the NFL Network's halftime report with analyst James Robinson and Steve Mariucci, the Ol' Ball Coach praised the New Orleans Saints.

"This looks like a good, capable football team," Mariucci told Robinson. "We know that the Saints have a good defense right? Well, all of a sudden they got some pieces on offense with a veteran quarterback and Kamara, and you added Jamal Williams. This team should win that division. So far, they look like the team to beat in the NFC South."

New Orleans is leading at halftime 17 -0 over Kansas City. Quarterbacks Derek Carr and Jameis Winston each tossed a touchdown in the first half. Winston led another drive for a 36-yard Will Lutz field goal in the second quarter. Winston was 11/13 for 92 yards and one passing touchdown. Carr finished the game 6/8 for 70 yards and one passing score.  

The Saints' offense totaled 162 passing yards and 59 rushing yards in the first half of action. Jamaal Williams had nine rushing attempts for 28 yards. Rookie A. T. Perry led the receivers with six receptions for 70 yards and one touchdown. Veteran wideout Keith Kirkwood had the first touchdown catch of the afternoon from Derek Carr.
