Insider: Russell Wilson On Table for Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be open to Russell Wilson as their next quarterback.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to consider several quarterbacks this offseason, with the hopes they end up with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph as their two competing for the starting job. But one NFL insider believes the team will consider a veteran from the AFC.

NBC Sports' Peter King said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan that Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is on the table for the Steelers this offseason.

"I would not rule out Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh. I think if Mike Tomlin had his way he’d want a veteran quarterback," King said.

Later the same day, Steelers insider Ed Bouchette said Wilson is a "no-brainer" for Pittsburgh to sign.

Wilson is still under contract with the Broncos, but the expectation is that he'll be released before free agency if the team is unable to land a trade. Pittsburgh likely isn't looking to give up capital for a veteran quarterback, but in free agency, they could be open to talking with the former Super Bowl champion.

This past season, Wilson threw for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns while throwing just eight interceptions. The Broncos went 7-8 with him as their starter.
