Raiders Hire Steelers Assistant Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers assistant defensive backs coach is headed to the Las Vegas Raiders.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will move forward without assistant defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander after accepting a job with the Las Vegas Raiders as their safeties coach, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. 

Alexander has been with the Steelers the last two seasons working as their assistant DB coach. Prior to Pittsburgh, he was the defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2020-2021, which came after two internships in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans (2015) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016). 

Before the NFL, Alexander spent nearly six years in the college ranks working as an undergraduate assistant at Arkansas State (2013), a graduate assistant at the University of Washington (2014), defensive backs coach for Indiana State (2015), Montana State (2016) and University of California (2017-2019).

The Steelers have seen a change to their staff this offseason with long-time strength and conditioning coach Marcel Pastoor stepping away from the team. Meanwhile, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan taking on two interviews for open offensive coordinator positions.
