Former Teammate Blames Ben Roethlisberger for Steelers Last Super Bowl Loss

One former Pittsburgh Steelers lineman says their quarterback was too worried about the MVP trophy.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't get their final Super Bowl win with Ben Roethlisberger back in 2010 against the Green Bay Packers. Looking back at the team's 31-25 loss, one offensive lineman says the team was focused too much on stats and not enough on winning.

During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Radio Row at Super Bowl LVII, former Steelers offensive lineman Max Starks said just enough about his final championship game.

"I think we were trying to make sure guys had opportunities for bigger trophies at the end," Starks said. "I'll just leave it at that."

The blame is pointed at Ben Roethlisberger, who threw the football 40 times while the Steelers ran the ball just 23 times. Many refer to Rashad Mendenhall's fumble as the reason Pittsburgh lost, but Starks believes it was the interceptions.

"If you take one less pick away from that game, we’re talking about seven-time Super Bowl Champions instead of just six-time," Starks said.

Roethlisberger threw two picks in that game, the first one coming in the opening quarter when the team was down 7-0. A deep ball to Mike Wallace fell way short and was caught by Packers' Nick Collins, who returned it for a touchdown.

Is it fair to blame Roethlisberger for the team's loss to Green Bay over 10 years ago? While the fanbase and media haven't thought too much about it, it appears some within the organization have been.
