Steelers Can't Rule Out Injured LB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't expecting Elandon Roberts to play in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. But despite initial fear that the team would be without their starting inside linebacker for the remainder of the season, don't count out the 29-year-old returning to the field sooner rather than later.
"You know me, don't count me out," Roberts smirked as he told All Steelers.
The Steelers are operating with Myles Jack as their signal-caller alongside Mykal Walker, with Blake Martinez and Mark Robinson coming off the bench. They recently signed Jaylon Smith to their practice squad and are hoping he can contribute to the defense in these last two games as well.
"I’ve done this all before," Smith said. "I’ve played on 48 hours notice, I’ve come in on a Thursday and started on Sunday. For me, it’s about getting here, getting around the guys, understanding the chemistry, and understanding what we want to do and achieve. Then, it’s about getting the playbook down. I know what I can do on the field."
Getting Roberts back in Week 18 could be massive for the Steelers. Currently, the team's playoff hopes are dim but alive, and Week 17 will make a significant impact on how close they are to earning a wildcard spot in the regular season finale.
A win against the Seahawks could push Roberts back on the field against the Baltimore Ravens, giving the Steelers their defensive communication leader back in crunch time.
