Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. Out With Injury vs Buccaneers

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without their rookie cornerback.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will not have second-round rookie Joey Porter Jr. on the field during their preseason opener versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team announced that Porter will not dress due to an ankle injury suffered in training camp.

Porter suffered the injury during the second week of training camp practice and was in and out during the third week. He didn't finish the team's final practice day, and has since been ruled out due to the injury.

Veteran Patrick Peterson will also not dress against the Buccaneers, leaving Levi Wallace as the lone starter at cornerback. Backups James Pierre, Luq Barcoo, Madre Harper and Isaiah Dunn will get extended playing time with Porter and Peterson both out.

The Steelers will not have 10 players, including Porter, on the field for their preseason opener. Other injuries include Tre Norwood (leg), Damontae Kazee (ankle), Keanu Neal (unknown) and John Lovett (unknown).
