Steelers QB Named Trade Candidate
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't played Mason Rudolph in a game since Kenny Pickett arrived, and with the trade deadline coming up, and Mitch Trubisky being secured as the team's backup, maybe a move could take place for the veteran quarterback.
The Athletic recently chose a player from every team that is most likely to be dealt by the trade deadline, and choose from the Steelers, beat report Mark Kaboly named Rudolph as that player.
"Rudolph is interesting because he’s an expendable veteran third-string quarterback who is playing out a minimum deal he signed in the spring," Kaboly writes. "With Kenny Pickett suffering a pair of concussions and a knee injury during his 17 career starts, the Steelers aren’t likely to be actively seeking to move Rudolph, who is also behind Mitch Trubisky. But if the right deal is offered, general manager Omar Khan has proven not to hesitate."
This is back-to-back years for Rudolph as a speculated trade candidate. With Pickett and Trubisky on the roster, it's unlikely Rudolph will see the field during the year, and if a team is looking for a veteran with starting experience, the former third-round pick makes sense.
Rudolph is 5-4-1 as a starter in Pittsburgh and has thrown 16 touchdowns to his 11 interceptions during his time in the NFL.
