Steelers Re-Sign TE Zach Gentry
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing back tight end Zach Gentry, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Gentry, the team's former fifth-round pick in 2019, has played 40 games for the Steelers. In the last two seasons, he's played all 34 games, including 25 starts and has caught 38 passes for 299 yards.
Gentry will return as the Steelers' backup tight end behind Pat Freiermuth. The last two years, the duo has operated with Freiermuth as the team's primary receiving option at the position, while Gentry handled run blocking duties and some pass-catching work.
Connor Heyward will also return for his second season. All three tight ends were utilized last season, with Heyward catching 12 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown.
The re-signing of Gentry likely means the Steelers will not target a tight end in the NFL Draft. Some fans were hoping the team had eyes on Georgia's Darnell Washington, but with three already on the roster, Pittsburgh won't be looking to add others.
