Report: Steelers Re-Signing QB Mason Rudolph
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing back their quarterback room, re-signing veteran Mason Rudolph, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
Rudolph hit free agency after five years with the Steelers. The former third-round pick started 10 games, with a 5-4-1 record, and has thrown for 2,366 yards and 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions while wearing the black and gold.
He played last season as the team's third-string QB, only being active in one game.
Throughout the offseason there have been reports telling both sides of Rudolph's future. Some claimed the quarterback wasn't going to return to Pittsburgh in the offseason and others said he'd be open to re-signing if the opportunity presented itself.
After going unsigned through the first part of free agency or quickly after the NFL Draft, he's now headed back to Pittsburgh to continue his career.
Rudolph will now enter the quarterback room and compete with undrafted rookie Tanner Morgan for the third spot on the depth chart. Kenny Pickett will start this season with Mitch Trubisky playing behind him.
