Steelers Bring In LB Kwon Alexander

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to add another inside linebacker.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in linebacker Kwon Alexander for a visit, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Alexander, 28, spent last season with the New York Jets, recording 69 tackles and six tackles for loss in 12 starts. After starting his career in Tampa Bay, playing four seasons with the Buccaneers, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers, playing 13 games before ending up on the New Orleans Saints for half a season.

Since joining the league in 2015, he's accumulated eight interceptions and 33 pass deflections.

The former fourth-round pick would join a Steelers inside linebacker room that added Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts and Tanner Muse this offseason. Second-year player Mark Robinson is also expected to take a leap in playing time.

Inside linebacker has been dubbed one of the team's remaining needs after the Steelers decided not to address it in the NFL Draft. Alexander has an opportunity to compete for the starting job with Holcomb or Roberts, or as the primary backup in a competition with Robinson this summer.

The team will likely run Alexander through a physical and talk with him about a potential fit during the visit.
