Report: NFL Nearly Moved Steelers Game to Atlanta
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting an extra day before taking on the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. But before the NFL decided to postpone the game, they nearly moved it down south to Atlanta, according to The Buffalo News.
The NFL, Steelers, Bills and New York Governor Kathy Hochul came to the agreement that the game would be pushed back from Sunday afternoon to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The decision came with hopes travel conditions would ease after a weekend of lake-effect snow showers and nearly 50 miles per hour winds.
Reports earlier in the week claimed the NFL was considering moving the game from Buffalo to Cleveland due to the weather. However, at the time of the report, a Steelers spokesperson told All Steelers they had not been told the league was considering a venue change.
Orchard Park is expected to receive anywhere from 12-24 inches of snow prior to kickoff, with wind gusts reaching 35-40 miles per hour, according to local weather reports from News4.
There have also been reports stating the postponement of the game could happen for a second time, pushing it back to Tuesday if the weather does not settle in time.
As of now, kickoff is set for Monday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET at Highmark Stadium.
