49ers Sign Former Steelers QB Josh Dobbs

The former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick is headed to the San Francisco 49ers.

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs is headed to San Francisco, agreeing to terms on a deal with the 49ers, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

Dobbs, 29, was the Steelers' fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent three years in Pittsburgh before spending time with the Jackson Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings.

Last season, Dobbs became an NFL sensation, starting 12 games, eight for the Cardinals and four for the Vikings. Despite going 3-9, he had both teams believing he could lead them further than expected at times. In his 13 games, he completed 62% of his passes, throwing for 2,464 yards and 13 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

During his time with the Steelers, he played in six games, throwing for 45 yards and rushing for 31 yards.

He now joins the 49ers on a one-year deal worth $2.25 million with $750,000 in incentives. With Sam Darnold leaving in free agency, Dobbs should have an opportunity to compete for a backup role behind Brock Purdy.
