Huge First Day for Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers arrived at Day 1 of OTAs with lots of confidence.

PITTSBURGH -- Football is officially back with the Pittsburgh Steelers hitting the field at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for the first day of Organized Team Activities.

As the Steelers practiced for the first time asa  full team ahead of the 2023-24 football season, there was plenty to talk about.

The first thing everyone in attendance noticed was who wasn't in attendance. T.J. Watt, Larry Ogunjobi and Armon Watts all missed the first day of OTAs, which Watt and Ogunjobi might be able to get away with while Watts is in a more precarious position.

Kenny Pickett turned up looking a little thicker than he had a year before in anticipation of a long season ahead of him and his backup, Mitch Trubisky, talked about embracing his role and helping Pickett navigate that long year.

And with Pickett facing a crucial year in his development, Diontae Johnson wants to be a go-to guy for the young quarterback.

On the field, there is also the beginnings of a battle between Broderick Jones and Dan Moore Jr. taking shape, with the veteran owning an upper hand early.
