Commanders Sign Former Steelers LB

The Washington Commanders are claiming a former Pittsburgh Steelers starter.

PITTSBURGH -- The Washington Commanders have added former Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Mykal Walker, the team announced.

Walker spent most of the 2023 season with the Steelers, originally signing to their practice squad before becoming a starter for their defense. He was promoted to the 53-man roster in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns and remained with the defense through the rest of the season, playing in eight games and starting five. He replaced Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander, who both suffered season-ending injuries.

He finished his time in Pittsburgh with 33 tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception.

Walker, 26, will look to get back to his starting role in the NFL. After being selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft went on to start 20 games and play in 49 during his first three years in the league. His best season came in 2022 when he recorded 107 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack and two interceptions.
