Steelers, Tyler Boyd Finally Over
The Pittsburgh Steelers pursuit of Tyler Boyd is seemingly over.
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers pursuit of Tyler Boyd is finally over, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. After weeks of negotiating, it appears the "ship has sailed" on any remaining chance the two sides came to an agreement.
Boyd was considered an easy addition for the Steelers, bringing home the former Pitt star and local high school standout through free agency. But after differences in contract terms halted negotiations, things got tricky. Now, it appears both sides are moving on.
"I would say that it would be a long shot, at best, that the two sides come together," Kaboly writes. "From what I have been told, Boyd was extremely interested in Pittsburgh at the beginning of the free-agency process, but the offer wasn’t something he was comfortable with. Boyd has at least had preliminary interest from the Chiefs, Chargers, Dolphins, Lions and 49ers. I am pretty sure the ship with the Steelers has sailed."
Boyd, 29, was once viewed as the Steelers' replacement for Allen Robinson as a slot receiver. After the additions of Cordarrelle Patterson and Quez Watkins, the team may not have as big of a need to fill the position. As for their No. 2 receiver behind George Pickens, the NFL Draft appears to be their best shot.
Boyd should land on one of the above mentioned teams soon. The long-time Bengal has contributed every year he's been in the league and is still considered one of the more reliable pass-catchers in the NFL.
