CBS NFL Mock Draft Has Texans Going In Different Direction at No. 12

The Houston Texans have Myles Murphy follow Bryce Young into the franchise's locker room in the latest 2023 NFL mock draft.

The Houston Texans are looking forward to a successful 2023 NFL Draft with two first-round selections in hand.

As we have seen frequently in recent weeks, CBS Sports has the Texans taking Alabama quarterback Bryce Young at No. 2 overall.

However, this particular mock defensive has the Texans shaking things up a bit, and picking Clemson defensive lineman Myles Murphy at No. 12.

Coach Demeco Ryans recently noted that the franchise would be best rebuilt from the ground up, first laying its foundation on the offensive and defensive lines.

Taking Myles Murphy with their second selection of the day would gift the Texans with a player who racked up eight sacks and two forced fumbles in his 2021 sophomore season at Clemson.

"The Myles Murphy campaign is losing a bit of steam, but he has great size and speed," CBS said of Murphy. "It is difficult to overlook his potential, and that is why Houston adds him to its defensive front."

The 6-5, 275-pound lineman would be asked to help a Houston defense take opposing offenses off the field with speed, opening the door for Young to set the offense in motion.

With C.J. Stroud projected to go first in this mock, Young would be a welcome consolation for the Texans.

"Houston elects not to make an offer for No. 1 overall and, instead, wait with bated breath to learn who Carolina is selecting," CBS said of Young. 'With C.J. Stroud off the board, the Texans rush to turn the card in for Bryce Young."

A power play to move up one spot in the draft would only be sensical should management heavily favor Stroud over Young or vice versa.

Reports have yet to surface on general manager Nick Caserio and the coaching staff on setting their minds on one of the budding young talents.

Much speculation is sure to surface in the coming weeks leading up to the Apr. 27 draft day.

Until then, Houston has options. It's now on management to make prudent evaluations of the talent laid in front of them and do what's best for the team.
